This is a story of Tom, and this laid-off software engineers’ trip around the North end of Vancouver Island. It is a story of naivety, ineptitude, and surprisingly, success. This is book one in a series, and describes the start of my kayaking adventures. It was an excellent adventure, with bears, killer whales wolves and sea lions, to name a few. Kayaking on my own during the day, and camping on glorious (and not so glorious) beaches during the night. There are small maps showing the kayaking route, and a day by day account of what happened, with photos whenever I could manage the camera, or met someone or something worth photographing. It's not a book about kayaking technique, because I haven't got any, more a description of what can be achieved with a good level of determination and a healthy sense of fun. There's probably enough information in the book (and references) for you to decide whether you like the sound of this kind of adventure and go have one yourself!

Simple but helpful journal.

A very simply written journal. A good reminder of the dangers of traveling along the coast. It helped convince me that a splash covered canoe probably doesn't belong on the Pacific Coast of Vancouver Islands. Now where shall I go in September.

An amusing, if thin, tale of a glorious kayak adventure

This is the author's tale of a kayak journey starting in Tofino and proceeding clockwise around Vancouver Island. It's a short book, consisting of brief descriptions of each day's travels. The journey is an exercise in lunacy-- The guy seems cavalier about the challenges and safety aspects, and things could have gone very wrong for him. But he made it, and we are fortunate that he decided to share his adventure.

I really enjoyed this book. The writer is funny, and you get a sense of semi-gritty realism that I find lacking in a lot of write-ups of kayak adventuring. As noobish as he appears to be (he admits, without apology, to failing to learn how to roll, for example), the guy was enough of a seaman to successfully deal with the wild conditions that can be found on the West Coast of Vancouver island, and that's nothing to sniff at.

I recommend it. In one way it's a "don't try this at home" kind of warning tale. But on the other hand it's an adventure in the finest tradition of crazy adventuring. Worth a read.

This is an awesome book with a great introduction using the author's personal experience. This is powerful stuff. It really spoke to me because I'm all about functional training. I don't care so much about the shape of my butt as the shape of my health. I care less about the numbers of the circumference of my butt than the numbers of my blood pressure. The fact that these exercises make me look good is just a wonderful side effect. If you only buy one book on strength exercises, this should be it! As long as you are disciplined and stick with it, it will change your life. Guaranteed!

I went searching for a book that could help me do exercises that would develop my body. I found that Jonathan's book. I kept using the excuse that I didn't have the money to purchase a gym membership or to buy the weights that I thought I needed. This book helped me understand that I don't have to spend money to get fit. These exercises are not just for the pro athletes but starts where you are and graduates you to a new level.

getting in shape

What I enjoyed about this book were the many weight training exercise, I love a variety. The book was very organized and has different sections for whatever part that you want to work out. I do a lot of cardio but now I'm losing weight so I need to start toning. I've heard of some of these exercise, but it's nice to get a reminder of what I need to be doing. I also like that there's pictures in the book of some of the exercises, you don't see that in many of the books. All in all, I found the perfect exercises that I'm going to do starting tomorrow to tone up, starting with my core.

Kallie George’s The Magical Animal Adoption Agency is the heartwarming story of Clover, a lonely young girl who, despite her name and love for animals, is convinced she’s unlucky. When her best friend takes the last available spot at horse camp and leaves Clover behind for the summer with her always-working parents and her newest pet escapes, Clover is certain she’s cursed.

Clover’s luck begins to change, however, when she ventures into the woods one afternoon and discovers the Magical Animal Adoption Agency. Filled with magical, exotic, and entertaining creatures from colorful toads to majestic unicorns, gentle miniature horses, and exciting fire breathing salamanders, the Magical Animal Adoption Agency introduces Clover to the exciting world of mythical animals and provides her with the opportunity to care for the animals on a daily basis while she helps them find a loving forever home amongst a series of creative characters that range from a princess to a woodsman to a witch. The funny, captivating, sensational adventures Clover experiences while volunteering at the Agency along with the relationships she forms with each of the animals that fall under her care help teach Clover confidence, the importance of following her heart, and that sometimes the best of luck comes from within.

This book is simply magical! Do you believe in magic? Do you love love animals, especially enchanted ones? Have you ever felt that you were unlucky? Have you felt like nothing ever goes your way? If you've ever felt any of these or are feeling down on your luck, than this is a story for you! It's also a story if you've never felt these things.

This story is about Clover. Clover is a young girl who believes in magic, loves animals, including the enchanted ones, but she feels unlucky. Then something happens, and she begins to realize that no matter what is going on around her, she can make the most of her situation. She can create her own personal lucky happenings.

Clover hasn't always had the best of luck. Feeling down on her luck when plans fall through, things go from bad to worse, as her pet bird gets out and flies away. Clover follows her bird to the woods, a place she and the other village children have always feared, in hopes of trying to capture it. The deeper she ventures in after her bird, the more she discovers just how lovely the woods are. Lucky for Clover, she stumbles upon a magical, secret place. The Magical Animal Adoption Agency.

Sworn to not tell anyone about this place, Clover soon discovers that this is a place where she will learn to overcome her streak of bad luck, trust in herself, and learn to make her own kind of luck. Here, Clover takes care of magical animals. Animals like a baby dragon, unicorns, and other special creatures. Here, Princesses, Princes, Kings, Queens, Witches and many other people come to adopt an animal. Being that this is a secret place, means those from Clover's village don't know about this place. Just those you'd read about in fairy tales.

There's no such thing in being unlucky. You just have to learn how make your own lucky happenings. Thanks to a cute a little cat, Clover realizes that when bad things happen, it's up to her to make the best of the situation. I really liked Clover. There's something about her I think everyone can relate to. I loved reading her story. The setting for Clover's story was perfect! I wished I could have worked side by side with Clover at the Magical Animal Adoption Agency.

I really enjoyed this book. The illustrations in this book are simply adorable. It's the perfect story to read out loud with you children, or in a classroom setting. It's a great book for those who have advanced from the beginning reader books into chapter books.I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

Fun new fantasy series for those beginning chapter books

What an adorable new series by Kallie George. I received the second of this series as an ARC, so I had to give the first one a go. I am so excited that I have the next one already!

I love books that I can share with my kids immediately, ones that they are eager to read and breeze through almost as quickly as me. When my daughter saw the cover and learned there were unicorns she was instantly attracted. This book surely did not disappoint either of us.

We begin by meeting Clover, a fun little girl who considers herself hopelessly unlucky. She has a terrible track record with pets but loves them so much she desperately wants to turn her luck around. Clover has another unlucky experience when her best friend goes away to Riding Camp and then her newest pet canary flies away through a broken window. This leads our young friend in the forbidden Woods where she soon finds herself volunteering at an animal adoption agency. But this Adoption Agency isn't for just any animals, and the clientele is nothing like she's ever seen.

Clover is quickly given responsibility and finds herself learning more and more about responsibility, magic and what luck really is.

It's fun and quick, my daughter and I each read it the same day. We loved the illustrations. The pace was quick with some fun turns. The villain is the perfect combination of wicked but not too scary. My younger daughter is reading it now and the chapters are just the right length for her. It's definitely geared toward a younger audience. I loved the sweet little ending, summed up with a wonderful moral and just enough introduction into the next.

Easy to follow, helpful instructions that are suited to all ages!

I bought this book for my daughter as she has recently become interested in crochet. She absolutely loved the book and was delighted with the easy to read instructions, detailed graphics and overall helpfulness that this book offers. Thanks again for a wonderful guide book, I am sure that I will be getting crocheted clothing as Christmas and birthday gifts for years to come!

Great beginner’s Guide

Bought this for my wife who has been struggling to learn to crochet. She’s watched some YouTube videos, but this book seemed to help more than those. The author includes some history of the craft as well as illustrations of how to hold the needles and yarn which were helpful for a newbie. The text also goes through basic steps such as creating a slip knot and the various stitches used while crocheting. All of these sections included clear illustrations on the techniques discussed which were a huge help.

Wonderful Guide for a Crochet Newbie

Crocheting was actually one of my frustrations because my mom and my gran used to make some on their spare time. They even thought me how but I can't really follow what they were saying. When I came across this book I have seen some hope that I can still give it another shot. And I did. Thanks to this amazing guide I can now really crochet!

About the Author
Dillman served in the US Army through the 1960s & beyond. He was among the first to introduce the Eastern martial arts to post-war USA. Trained under Harry Smith, Danny Pai & Hohan Soken, he received advanced instructor certifications in many martial forms. A friend to Bruce Lee, he also coached Muhammad Ali. In the '80s and '90s he pioneered use of pressure-point theory in the West. He partnered with other great headmasters to share seminars all over the world. In 1999 he was awarded the 10th Degree Black Belt. He is now headmaster of an international martial arts organization.

Son of a Typhoon pilot, Chris Thomas is arguably Britain’ s best authority on the Typhoon/Tempest family, having served as Air Britain’ s specialist on the type for over two decades.

Over-Priced, failing to deliver sufficient information

This book contains little information per page, prefering oversized graphics and white space. I feel the money could be better spent to buy several books with more information. Dillman leads the buyer to believe that secrets will be revealed, yet the book barely scatches the surface of Pressure Point Arts. Better are the books by Yang Jwing Ming, such as "Shaolin Chi Na".

Excellent w/ background in Wrestling, Hapkido, or Ju-Jitsu

I fail to see the reasoning from the review titled "It looks nice but.............., November 19, 2000"
The main problem I have in this persons article is that I know for fact (and from personal experience) that these are extremely effective techniques. In fact the techniques presented in this book are several times more effective in a real situation than a normally applied strike.
And also, an angry person who "wants to rip your face off," is always easier to defeat than an assailant with a clear mind and excellent coordination.
Further more, this is a book pointed towards advanced practices. That means they require practice. No technique will be effective without sufficient practice.
In conclusion, this book is an great adjunct to your knowledge if you have a background in wrestling, hapkido, or ju-jitsu.
