I had the pleasure of reading Goose Pit Hash (first edition) and let me tell you, John has really outdone himself on “Second Helping”. It’s expanded with new instant classics such as “The Ballad of Jon Boozing” and “Arbor Lodge Flasher”. Honestly, after reading it, my bookshelf is a little sparse. I burned all of my other books (including bibles), as they no longer live up to the literary prowess set by John. Kudos to you, John, for setting the bar so high with this masterpiece.

John Frates is able to poke fun at everyone he meets and to not offend them

This book is very unique. The author has a style of writing that enables the reader to laugh, cry, smile and often remember a lifetime of activities and adventures. John Frates is able to poke fun at everyone he meets and to not offend them. Having spent a great deal of my life as an educator, I often tried to find ways to involve the parents in the educational process. This author involves every reader in the same manner. First you read about the wild times described in the book. Then, you find yourself remembering something of your past with your friends. More laughing. I caught myself going through so many emotions while reading that I would just sit and think of my life as I continually probed the book for more and more. Great job Mr. Frates.....I highly recommend this book to all who want to enjoy life at its fullest.

Anxiously awaiting #2!

The first book has been a hit in our household! There are 4 of us here and since all of us regularly use the bathroom and since Goose Pit Hash is the only reading material in the bathrooms... Well, let's say the book has been well read! We are all anxiously looking forward to the next edition. Maybe the author will sign our new copy when he visits our humble commode...I mean abode.
