Can we really compare?

I enjoyed the quick read but as I am not a fan of comparing fighters of different generations it becomes just one man's opinion against your own or others. I was interested in this list and the reasoning he had however I did differ with some of his suggested results. Still it keeps fans happy and generally creates conversation on the subject. Personally I find it really impossible to compare with any accuracy boxers of today with the past and for myself I find that grouping fighters as Greats, near Greats, very good etc. tends to give you a comparison of abilities. Some really are better than others but as I see it a great is judged on his accomplishments in his own era and who knows what differences would occur had a past champion enjoyed, were he to be active in a later generation with all the added supports and technologies that exist today. As for individual results , certain qualities can push you to see one direction however in this sport we love one good punch could have brought about an entirely different result to that predicted by a majority.
