This book examines the safari and goes into more detail than many books on what was shot and how. This book goes into great detail of the people on the safari and their duties and really gives a great feel for how it was back then. I highly recommend.

Hunting in Africa Safari Style

Stewart Edward White was one of the early promoters of conservation and had a lot to do with popularizing camping, hunting, and life in the wild. LAND OF FOOTPRINTS describes in great detail and with tremendous charm the experience of going on safari in central Africa. SEW has a conversational writing style that holds up very well today although there are occasional surprises in the text when he explains the roles and responsibilities of the tribesmen who accompany the hunters. One of these surprises is -- at a time when black Africans were popularly regarded as almost subhuman in other American works -- SEW devotes much of the book to praise for the tribesman who is the manager of the other locals.
SEW's work was exceptionally popular about 100 years ago and included fiction and non-fiction. I am a great fan of his non-fiction and have been since high school when I devoured his stories of early California and the west when i was supposed to be doing math homework.
LAND OF FOOTPRINTS transports the reader back a century and into the culture of the white hunter in black Africa. It is time travel of the most charming sort...if you like hunting and exotic places and cultures as do I.

Very enjoyable read. Old time trip and safari in a large part of Africa. Complete with first class "caravan".
