The truth about Paleo Eating: An everyday approach to the paleo diet for beginners by Thomas Green is an interesting and informative book about the benefits and drawbacks of one of the most controversial diets out there today. The book, while extolling the virtues of the paleo or cave - man diet, does not hesitate to confront the drawbacks of the lifestyle. It acknowledges "the dark side of paleo", and offers a balanced approach to try to mitigate the more problem areas. Green also emphasises the benefits of the diet, showcasing why many find it to be a very attractive way of eating. Some of these benefits are increased health and weight loss - and who doesn't want that.
The second part of the book is a variety of delicious sounding recipes featuring meat, potatoes and vegetables cooked in imaginative and healthy ways. Finally, Green includes a seven day paleo eating plan to help you get started and to help you imagine what it would be like to live on a paleo diet.

Amazing book on Paleo Diet!

I usually search for diets in order to reduce extra weight. Most of the time, the search result will be Paleo diet. But when I go through this book, I came to know that Paleo is not only a diet but also a lifestyle. The book clears all my questions about Paleo. Unlike others does, it not only praise the advantages of Paleo, but it also cautions us about the dark side too. It describes in an understandable manner what Paleo does and what it does not. The fine thing about the book is it also provides us a variety of Paleo diet recipes that we can use in our day-to-day life. Personally I recommend this book.

Paleo diet is a strange name to most of us. I tried to understand what Paleo diet is all about. Luckily I got a chance to read this book. The book briefs us about the history of Paleo which is so impressive. It explains how our ancestors led life in most challenging circumstances. Paleo has its own positive and negative sides. The book leaves us to decide whether we need to use Paleo or not based on the pluses and minuses it gives us about Paleo. It also provides us a 7-day Paleo plan to get started. Highly recommended!

A wonderfully woven tale of personal transformation crafted by an insightful author. I love the incorporation of dream imagery to convey messages, as well as to illustrate the beauty and tragedy of the human experience on both personal and global levels. This story is about the way in which we touch others and the grace of compassion. Highly recommended!

Masterful, brilliant!

Ariele Huff has created a masterpiece. The conversion theme moves us while challenging us to examine the motives and prejudices of our hearts. The language is wonderfully crafted, and the inspiring imagery used to depict different nationalities is a testament to her extensive work among ESL learners.

A story I'll enjoy reading again and again

This is one of my top five favorite stories, and one that followed me around long after I'd finished it. Artful imagery and believable, relatable characters bring to life The Queen of Mean’s powerful theme. A wonderfully written life lesson about the transformation of a woman who learns to let herself see and be seen in a more loving, accepting light. I highly recommend it.

Twice As Good!!

This is the first book by author Ruchi Singh and she deals with marital discord, divorce and second marriage! Quite a lot to take on in a first book but she has the knack to seamlessly write and sort the problems faced by the simple, pretty and homely Priya. Her husband Sameer is cheating on her after he has wasted all her inheritance. In fact she is the one who is keeping the house in order.

This book is truly a chance she took and I was very happy with a book full of real romance and faith. Even if it was not from the one Priya needed. Abhimanyu is her knight in shining armor and he is a true hero. Smart, successful and emotional, he is the complete package. A guy to drool over and wish for; if only we had more men like him around. He takes Priya under his wing and is her support system, her true anchor.

When she feels over whelmed he takes a step back, putting her happiness before his own. A gem of a man whose family is his support, which by the way is also very well etched by Ruchi. The parents, cousins and friends add a lot of depth to the story. I am sure Ruchi will have stories for a couple of them!

What I really enjoyed was the twist in the tale. The drama was not from the families but Abhimanyu’s office! The story gets a real life feel with the controversy, spite and plain old greed playing a big part. How the author managed to link all the people in this twist needs to be read.

I enjoyed the twists and turns, truly the path of true love is never easy. A well fleshed out book, with a lovely free flowing language. No errors that I could find glaring at me through the pages. It was indeed to cool to read a romance with substance and sound editing!

Do pick it for an uplifting read. 4 stars. * * * *

A must read if you like romances

I have read a number of short stories by Ruchi Singh on her blog I luv fiction and loved them. I had been keen to read her full length novel for a long time, but only got the time now. As I mentioned above, it was unputdownable once I began to read.

Priya is very young when her husband Sameer insists on divorcing her. He’s been cheating on her with other women and living off her earnings for a long time. But innocent Priya trusts him completely. Even when she finds out that he’s sleeping with model Jessica, Priya believes that it’s Jessica who’s got her claws into him and doesn’t realise Sameer is a selfish bastard.

While out with her friends, she meets Abhimanyu. He’s attracted to her from first sight and is shocked when he finds out that she’s married. Drawn to her despite the circumstances and everyone’s advice, Abhi helps Priya when she sets out to woo Sameer back.

Abhimanyu is a hotshot guy working in advertising; has won an award recently, is chivalrous, can cook and a complete hero. He's simply adorable. It's no wonder that he plays a big role in healing Priya who has had a tough life so far.

The relationship between Abhi and Priya has been built beautifully. Priya seems weak in the beginning, but soon we realise that it’s because she’s young. She grows up fast and realises what kind of a cad her husband is. That’s when she files for a divorce.

I am not going to say much from this point on as I will let out spoilers. But the characters, sequences and the story has been built very well – from the good guys, to the bad guys, to the supporting characters, including Kitkat.

For a first novel, I must congratulate Ruchi Singh on spinning a wonderful story.

VERDICT: A must read if you like romances

Loved Take 2 and recommend it to everyone!

Priya's perfect world takes a tumble when she realizes that her husband is cheating on her and when he asks for a divorce, it seems like the last nail has been struck. Confused, in denial and still hopeful of saving her world, Priya takes the help of Abhimanyu, her friend's brother but is this relationship platonic or a beginning to something new?
Can Priya take a risk at a second chance at happiness?

Take 2 is Ruchi Singh's debut novel and while I have had the pleasure of reading her short stories, I was really impressed with her first attempt at novel writing.

The blurb is interesting and had me intrigued right from the start. The cover is beautiful and eye catching.

Take 2 follows Priya's life in a crisp, unbiased and sensitive fashion. Priya represents the modern woman in India who is progressive but still a believer in the age-old traditions and ready to fight to save her marriage. Sometimes she felt like an ostrict, in denial and still clinging to the hope of bringing her husband home but then Ruchi brings her transformation to the reader and her strength while tackling with the loss of her dream world and determination to rebuild her life. In between, characters like Priya's landlady bring out the backward views that still haunt people in India and their total refusal to change with time.

Abhimanyu or Abhi was overbearing but still a character I loved. His quiet strength, his knowledge of human character and his support towards Priya helps her through the difficult period. Komal and Aditi, Priya's friends were another lovely addition to the mix. This is one book where I loved all the characters, even the villains. Each character is sketched beautifully and developed skillfully to take the story forward and make it a story with impact.

Ruchi's writing style is engaging and simple. The scene descriptions and dialogues are expertly woven together and create a mental picture. I loved the inside look on the glamour world and the sly mechanisms of human character are well portrayed. The courtroom drama was again very entertaining and had me at the edge of my seat. I felt angry with Priya's husband and people like her guardians who had forced her into marrying young, her landlady who felt a wife's role was to please her husband even when he is a lying, cheating and worthless excuse of a man and the women in her society who only thought the worse if a man visited a married woman! Such petty thinking is an ugly spot on our rich culture and heritage and needs to change.

The author admirably contrasts such backward people with progressive people like Abhi's father who beautifully corrects his wife's wayward thoughts on marriage and what the society will think if Abhi married Priya even if she was divorced!The whole marriage dialogue had me smiling, thinking that as long as people like Abhi's father are there, there is still hope of improvement. :)

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed every second of the book right from start to finish and congratulate the author on a job well done. Strongly recommended to all readers, I give Take 2 4.5 out of 5 super shiny stars and definitely look forward to reading more from Ruchi in the future.

This book examines the safari and goes into more detail than many books on what was shot and how. This book goes into great detail of the people on the safari and their duties and really gives a great feel for how it was back then. I highly recommend.

Hunting in Africa Safari Style

Stewart Edward White was one of the early promoters of conservation and had a lot to do with popularizing camping, hunting, and life in the wild. LAND OF FOOTPRINTS describes in great detail and with tremendous charm the experience of going on safari in central Africa. SEW has a conversational writing style that holds up very well today although there are occasional surprises in the text when he explains the roles and responsibilities of the tribesmen who accompany the hunters. One of these surprises is -- at a time when black Africans were popularly regarded as almost subhuman in other American works -- SEW devotes much of the book to praise for the tribesman who is the manager of the other locals.

SEW's work was exceptionally popular about 100 years ago and included fiction and non-fiction. I am a great fan of his non-fiction and have been since high school when I devoured his stories of early California and the west when i was supposed to be doing math homework.

LAND OF FOOTPRINTS transports the reader back a century and into the culture of the white hunter in black Africa. It is time travel of the most charming sort...if you like hunting and exotic places and cultures as do I.

John Muir (1838 – 1914) was a Scottish-American naturalist, author, and early advocate of preservation of wilderness in the United States. His letters, essays, and books telling of his adventures in nature, especially in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, have been read by millions. His activism helped to preserve the Yosemite Valley, Sequoia National Park and other wilderness areas. The Sierra Club, which he founded, is a prominent American conservation organization.
In September 1867, Muir undertook a walk of about 1,000 miles from Indiana to Florida, which he recounted in his book A Thousand-Mile Walk to the Gulf. He had no specific route chosen, except to go by the "wildest, leafiest, and least trodden way I could find." When Muir arrived at Cedar Keys, he began working for Richard Hodgson at Hodgson’s sawmill. However, three days after accepting to work for Hodgson, Muir almost died of a malarial sickness. One evening in early January 1868, Muir climbed onto the Hodgson house roof to watch the sunset. Muir finally saw a ship, the Island Belle, and learned it would soon be sailing for Cuba. Muir boarded the ship, and while in Havana, he spent his hours studying shells and flowers and visiting the botanical garden in the city. Afterwards, he sailed to New York and booked passage to California.

A view across time....

As the human population expands the natural world around us disappears. This is a fact we mostly ignore as we go about our daily life. One day, you wake up, and discover that within your own lifetime things have been permanently altered.
When John Muir made his "Thousand-Mile Walk to the Gulf" the U.S. was not as heavily populated as it is today, although much had changed from the time when European settlers first moved through the area he explored -- a path that stretched from Indianapolis Indiana to the Gulf just north of what is Tampa Florida today.
Muir moved South in the aftermath of the Civil War, so he encountered much unrest, unhappiness, and destruction along the way. He describes not only the flora and fauna he found but the condition of humans as they struggled to rebuild their lives.
He says, "My plan was to simply to push on in a general southward direction by the wildest leafiest, and least trodden way I could find, promising the greatest extent of virgin forest." To a great extent, he was able to do that, however, he could not escape some of the realities of the world around him. For example, in Georgia, he encountered the graves of the dead, whom he says lay under a "common single roof, supported on four posts as the cover of a well, as if rain and sunshine were not regarded as blessings." A bit further he says, "I wandered wearily from dune to dune sinking ankle deep in the sand, searching for a place to sleep beneath the tall flowers, free from the insects and snakes, and above all my fellow man."
Muir wonders at the teachings of those who call themselves God's emissaries, who fail to ask about God's intentions for nature. He says, "It never seems to occur to these far-seeing teachers that Natures's object in making animals and plants might possibly be first of all the happiness of each one of them, not the creation of all for the happiness of one. Why should man value himself as more that a small part of the one great unit of creation? And what creature of all that the Lord has taken the pains to make is not essential to the completeness of the unit--the cosmos?"
Partly as a result of his writing, and the writing of other Naturalists, the National Park System came into being, and today, more trees grow on the East coast than grew in the late 1700s (American Revolution). The fight is not over, however, it has only begun. Many of those trees are "harvested" every year. Sometimes, even within National Forests they are all felled at the same time through a process called clear cutting. The lovely large oaks that Muir beheld are mostly long gone and have been replaced by Pine.

Travel through the eyes of a youth--John Muir

This is one of John Muir's best books (the other being _First Summer in the Sierra_). It's Muir's slightly-edited diary of his 1000-mile trip through the Southern U.S. to Florida, then Cuba. He traveled on foot observing nature and the people. The book holds your interest as it's written on the spot through the enthusistic eyes of a young man. It reminds me a little of Mark Twain's book _Roughin' It_, another story through the eye's of a young man latter to become famous (about working on antebellum riverboats).

Natures bounty in a war-torn land

John Muir (naturalist and founder of the Sierra Club) left his home in Indiana at age 29 and "rambled" 1,000 miles through the woods of the southern US ending in Florida in 1867/68. It was just 2 years after the end of the Civil War and he ran into "wild negros" and long-haired horse-riding ex-Confederate bandits who would "kill a man for $5". He passed through uninhabited stretches of burnt out fields and deserted farms and was often seen as a northern interluder mistrusted by his southern guests. He lived mostly on stale pieces of bread, almost dieing of starvation while camping in a graveyard outside of Savannah, GA. He caught malaria and was bed ridden for 3 months, cared for by a kind family in Florida.

This is a snapshot of the south right after the war and the contrast between Muir's beautiful nature writing and the devastation of war are just as striking today as they must have been for the many people who encountered this unusual walker in the woods. Muir's writing is under-stated - the book was published posthumously and is more a diary than a finished book, which gives it a truthfulness and matter of factness. Fundamentally a Romanticist world-view - the power of nature and mans relation to it - Muir delights in finding, sampling and discussing plants, animals and geography. The genre is best compared with Robert Louis Stevenson's Travels With a Donkey in the Cevennes and Thoreau's The Maine Woods.

Her friendship with Vaidya Radhika Prassannatma is an interesting, stimulating and captivating experience. Vaidya Radhika Prassannatma lives in New Orleans, Louisiana with her husband and daughter. She received her B.A.M.S degree from The Muniyal Institute of Ayurvedic Medicine in South India and is currently a lecturer on the Ayurvedic Principles.

This book is excellent! The weaving of the story of the walks with the authors Vaidya and friend keeps it interesting and personal. The book also has within it an in depth discussion about the allopathic American health care system and the pharmaceutical industry, showing the reader the truths about the current system of "health" in the U.S. It also has a great introduction to Ayurveda, with the authors personal experiences in changing her way of caring for herself. This displays how it is possible for anyone to consider this practice in their own life. Thank you Susan West for this great book.

but I would have like larger, easier-to-read diagrams

A basic review of the positions and the overlaps allowed within the rules, and a very fast read. The author allows you to get up to speed on the rules of overlap between positions on the court. The book then expands on the various positions of each person for various defenses in each offensive system (4-2, 6-2, 5-1). Libero play and positioning is also discussed. Overall helpful, but I would have like larger, easier-to-read diagrams. Perhaps that's a Kindle limitation more than the author's issue though.

Complete and Easy Guide to Volleyball Rotation!

This is one of the best explainations of the rules of overlap in volleyball that I have come across! It is written well and is easily understandable. The concepts are broken down and could be taken to many levels of volleyball practice and be immediately applicable. I highly recommend this guide to any aspiring volleyball coach or player who is struggling to teach and/or learn volleyball rotation.

This is a great, quick read for understanding volleyball rotations, which I have struggled with. There are diagrams laid out on how to manage the rotations without giving up points or being called for being out of position. Very clear and insightful.
