About the Author
Julio C Castañeda Jr emigrated from Cuba to the US in 1974, grew up in South Florida and currently resides in San Jose, California, with his wife and youngest son. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and has worked for Motorola and Google for more than 25 years in product development, R&D and manufacturing. Over the course of his career, Julio has earned a Master Six Sigma Black Belt, been granted 48 US patents and authored numerous technical reports on a broad range of engineering topics. He has always been an avid sports fan fascinated by the statistical aspect of the game.

Even if you don't love football but have watched a lot of it (as I have), this book is interesting and fun to read. Julio has an easy to read writing style plus he has a great sense of humor so it keeps you smiling throughout. And I never realized that football was such a number driven sport. Before I got to the end, I was really interested to know who would be at the top of the list for best quarterback but- no spoiler here! It is a great read and I highly recommend it -

UPDATE: Finished, and I wish I could add a 6th star. This is a football book that takes a new, improved look at statistics, not a statistic book that discusses football. I literally could not put this book down. I really hope the new mQBR system makes it to every sports site for next season. I want to write more, but spoilers prevent me from gushing on. Cannot wait for the next book in the series!!! -
OLD: I just ordered this book, but after hearing the author on a local Sports Radio program, I knew it was a must. I always thought the QBR system was flawed and cannot wait to see how it is improved to give the never ending debate of "GOAT QB" a new step.
Plus, I am anxious to read the whole chapter on Joe Namath, that was teased.

The questions the author answers are typically approached intuitively and emotionally. He, instead, provides a refreshing, data-driven response that employs statistical techniques to rationally arrive at conclusions. His engineering background shines through when he clearly and appropriately defines all of the assumptions of the analysis. Yet, he manages to maintain an accessible, even friendly tone throughout the book. Although I have never been an avid football fan, I enjoyed learning about the game and appreciate it more as a result. If you dare to involve yourself in an argument about "The Best Ever" at your next watch party, let this text be your guide.
