I was a ranked junior tennis player, played varsity singles all four years at Chaminade High School in Long Island, NY and played Division 1 collegiate player at St. John's university in Jamacia, Queens. Over my tennis career, I played tennis and took many lessons at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY, home of the US Open, The Port Washington Tennis Academy, Nick Bollettieri's and Harry Hoffman's sleepaways camps in Florida, the West Point summer tennis camp as well as many other top notch training facilities. While we trained mainly in mechanics and repetition there were some coaches who touched upon the mental aspect of the game. I both lost and won many matches due to either myself or my opponent "losing themselves" mentally on the court and looking back on my tennis career I wished I had more resources to improve mentally on the court as quickly as physically. To make a long story as short as possible I came across "The Making of a Winner" at my friends house on his coffee table. I began reading while I was waiting for him to get ready for our weekly tennis match, and I began seeing similarities in the way I had lost matches in the past as well as the way others had lost matches to me. After reading the whole book I truly wished I had the opportunity to have read this book while I was a junior tennis player and when I played in college. I truly believe it is a unique way to approach the mental side of the game and it actually is also a "self help" book for life in tennis as well as out of tennis. I would recommend this read to all coaches and tennis students as a unique tool to help enhance their teaching and tennis games.

Being a Winner Doesn't Mean Winning All the Time

After a tennis match a few years ago with our local men's doubles group at Robbinswood Tennis Center in Belleveue, Washington, Dave Moe told me about his new book, "The Making of a Winner". I had no idea Dave was an author, but enjoy his company. Whether it be on the tennis court or in a friendly guitar jam session or sailing on Puget Sound, Dave sends out positive waves of energy to those around him. I know him as "The Moe-tivator." In "The Making of a Winner," Dave skillfully and insightfully reveals how playing what some call the "inner game of tennis" really flows from how we approach the inner game of life. Dave illustrates how becoming a winner requires developing both physical and mental skills, including the ability to look past defeats with a positive personal attitude toward new encounters, whether on the tennis court or in one's life work. Dave gets it that being a winner does not mean winning all the time. "The Making of a Winner" is a book meant to be read, set aside and then re-read. It sits on my bookshelf next to Jack Kramer's "The Game" and Jay Jennings' "Tennis and the Meaning of Life."

Excellent inspiring Book

David Moe's book is an excellent book on many levels. As a lifetime tennis player I came across this book about 10 years ago. It's simple in it's story buy very inspiring in it's meaning. Incorporates many of the lessons from The Inner Game of Tennis. It's about believing in yourself and playing in the moment. Sounds easy but when you see Roger Federer lose having match point it's much more difficult than it seems.

It's excellent for any child or adult getting in the game. Life lessons here about never quitting and believing in yourself...

Well worth the price of the book. Highly recommend.

Be smart enough to survive!

We all know what a disaster means, we probably have the an idea on what to do or what we need during the time of a disaster, but who really has a bug out bag? I like the book because it is straightforward and simple. It tells you what to have, how it works and why you need it. I have experienced flood overseas and I remember all I got is a flashlight and canned goods. This book’s list has it all, essentials that you can use in different scenarios. You might not become an expert but at least know your disaster essentials and how you could use them.
The book also focuses on the effectiveness, reliability and convenience of each item you need. I would actually recommend this to travelers and those who love the outdoors. You will really find it useful, familiarizing with the essentials that's in here will save you or others. You will find yourself shopping after reading and you will be suprise on how much it costs you to be ready and equip during emergencies.

I am by no means a survivalist and I have absolutely no clue what I would do in the middle of a disaster. Wulfe has put together a fantastic title on all of the essential things you'll need in the event of a disaster. You would be surprised at how accessible many of these items are and its realistic to put this bag together by the end of the week. Most people think remedy rather than prevention, but I think this is a great title we should all read.

Great set of information, although I think if you got ir all your "bug out" bag would be a bit heavier than me (I am not a small guy). Good but brief explanations and comprehensive on what one might need/want. Makes one think through the tradeoffs. Original material and no come-on for a mailing list, which really does add credence to the material in my opinion.

The Storytellah has done it again!

The Storytellah has done it again! Another story with vivid character details that leave the reader sitting on the edge of their seats with suspense. Spirit unfortunately got caught up in a marriage just so her husband can save face for the public but she finds herself for the first time while married, looking at another man who sees her for her. Galvin has put on so many facades, but tries to make everyone even at the end of the story… but the joke appears to be on him. This is not my first book by this author and it surely will not be the last. Charles The Storytellah Burgess shows us time and time again, that he has truly earned his name.

When The Music Switched, I knew.

This was a great story that sadly a lot of people live through daily. I don't want to say too much because this is one of those books that you cant just talk about.... you have to DISCUSS IT, and if you haven't read it I don't wait to spoil it for you. I want you to have the opportunity to sit there with your mouth hanging open, rereading things to make sure you actually read what you think you just read five and six times for conformation. I will say, this book EARNED all 5 of it's stars and I'm hoping there is a part 2 coming soon and very soon.

Amazing!! Must Read

I am amazed! First page, 2nd paragraph, the song by Bishop Paul S. Morton... the flood gates opened!!! Yes I found it on YouTube played it over and over, before I could continue reading! Awesome, how God uses people!

Exceptional writing! You delved into the deepest part of my soul and except for a few details, told my story! You gave so much to each character, I could feel their emotional roller coaster ride of their lives, up close and personal, not just with Spirit, but with each character! I also felt the turmoil Galvin was in the midst of! This book has been such a cleansing experience for me, it's unbelievable!

"I’m the one who should be sorry for giving so much of my life to someone who didn’t deserve it" YESSSSSSSS! True statement! Been there, done that...

I have bookmarked so many points throughout this story, I will be making it my business to re-read on a regular!

We had a good time talking first about when our kids were 8; then I read the book and showed them the pictures. Too much of good things can make the best pancake -- yucky! What's the life lesson here?

This story flows very nicely, building up to a wondrous climax and lesson. Maggie learns how to "enhance" a buttermilk pancake with some unusual toppings, such as a Popsicle, hot sauce and hot wings. "What will happen when she bites into her concoction?" we wonder as we read this book. The enhanced photos of Maggie and each of her steps in pancake-topping are cute and realistic. Young readers will relate with her very well.

This book can enhance a Saturday morning breakfast with the family -- as long as you're having pancakes! I have one worry about the health effects on a long-term basis of regularly having one pancake with "...AT LEAST two oversized pieces of butter ... and syrup until every inch is glistening with that sweet liquid magic!" This can lead to a good discussion among children and adults about a healthy breakfast, or at least smaller portions of things containing so much fats and sugar.

Other than that, I recommend this story highly.

~~Some things don't need to be improved~~

Maggie is all set for Pancake Saturday with her Dad. She has a ritual that she observes and normally does not deviate from it. This one Saturday morning, however, she decides to see if she is able to improve on the normal butter and maple syrup toppings! Oh my goodness, what an array of toppings she selects... cinnamon, whipped cream (both of which sound OK to me) but after that Maggie gets really carried away with her ideas. No spoilers here but these items don't sound good on pancakes.

There is a moral to this story that the author has written for ages 3 - 10 and K - 4. Some things just don't need to be improved and they are just fine the way they are at the beginning.

This book is in the Landscape mode and the pictures were taken of a little girl.

Humorous book with a tasteful message!

Amazing what a creative mind and Photo Shop will do as far as creating an enjoyable children's book! Book took a wild turn as Maggie went about creating the ultimate buttermilk pancakes as only a 7 year old can dream up. Thinking about my own thinly buttered, no-sugar syrup pancakes that I typically have for breakfast I sure got a laugh out of her creation! Of course Maggie learns a valuable lesson once it's all over and done and I thought the appearance of how the real life photos were dressed as well as the hand written story made the book more appealing. Overall, I found it to be a very good book!
