Walking Albuquerque: 30 Tours of the Duke City's Historic Neighborhoods, Ditch Trails, Urban Nature, and Public Art, by Stephen Ausherman

Given its history and massive sprawl, we must admit that, unlike Nancy Sinatra’s boots, Albuquerque was not made for walking. However, that doesn’t mean the art of walking has met its demise here. A resurgence in plans and efforts to make it walkable again indicates that the city is on the verge of a pedestrian renaissance. In the meantime, navigating it by foot requires some local guidance and expertise. That’s where Walking Albuquerque by local author and explorer Stephen Ausherman comes in handy. With 30 routes mapped out in the valley, the heights, and beyond, it’s the first guidebook of its kind to cover the entire city and surrounding areas, including tourist sites and famous filming locations along with several hidden treasures most local don’t even know about. Rich in history and obsessive in detail, Walking Albuquerque is written to encourage readers to take the next step and make each walk an enjoyable little journey.

A great new book for urban walking!
By Spiney Star
I've already done one of the walks. It was just as printed -- time and length. Very good. I'm looking forward to doing the rest of the walks. The book is very well organized and the design of each entry is great. I also like the fact that if a walk isn't a loop, the book tells you the most direct route back or suggests which mode of public transportation you should use to return to your car. It consolidates the Walk Albuquerque walks (separate brochures put out by the city of Albuquerque).

Good Ideas for Walks Around the City
By Sandy
I love the ideas in the book. As soon as it cools off, I think we're going to be taking some very interesting walks. Thanks for the tips on Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery. I've seen this for years, always wondered, and am looking forward to knowing what lies inside the gates.

Put on your walking shoes
By K. Immordino
Perfect for new residents, and handy when you have out-of-town visitors. Put on your walking shoes and sun-screen, grab a hat and start exploring. Recommended.
