My first time playing adult flag football in over 20 years So I thought I would brush up on my general knowledge. Good "no frills" book for a fair price. Black and white pictures. In hindsight I probably would have purchased the e-book instead. Apparently it has videos. Even if you are reasonably knowledgeable about NFL football like me, for the price it's a good resource to learn the differences in strategy between traditional and flag football.

This is such a pretty, fun book, with wonderful bright illustrations. Kids love doing yoga poses as they hear the story. About the Author
Friedrich Kurr worked for over 35 years at the South German Plastic Processing Center (SKZ) and has extensive experience in both teaching and research and development, in particular in the area of damage analysis. He developed several training courses at the SKZ and has lectured extensively at other institutions, including at the University of Erlangen, the Technical Academy in Esslingen and Sarnen (Switzerland), and the University of Applied Sciences Wurzburg.

The best book I've ever bought on the subjct!

As a Failure Analysis engineer I've found this book to be extremely helpful! In fact, I consider it to be the best book I've ever bought on the subject. I've only had it a short time and have already used it to solve several problems. It's well organized and cross-referenced, the photos are of excellent quality, and the types of defects which are covered are extensive. I especially appreciate the optical microscope images of thin sections taken from defective plastics. I was unaware of the numerous types of defects that this technique is capable of revealing. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs to determine the root cause of failures in plastics!

I have a very busy schedule with work and meetings but I also understand the importance of staying healthy. Since the first of the year I have been trying to find a way to incorporate some exercise into my already hectic schedule. Thanks to this book, I have found a training I can do that will give me high impact and not take 2hrs at the gym to do it. I got this book and it saved me not only time but a monthly gym membership. You can read the practical information inside but the results will be shown when you apply what you have learned from this book. Easy to read and it won't take you a long time to learn the exercises.

Great book for our Lice Clinics of America

We run a Lice Clinic of America and have this book on hand for the kids to read while getting deloused and they LOVE it. It is a cute book and makes the whole process better. The older kids always go for this book.

Moderately interesting but somewhat unfocused, musings, several variations on a single theme.

A short rumination on acting as an intrinsic human activity that becomes more distilled in professional actors, some competent, some transcendant, none without flaws. He contrasts Olivier and Brando, considering them as non-interchangeable actors (because of nationality, training, and temperament) who might have interchanged roles (Olivier as Vito Corleone, Brando as Hamlet, for example). He discusses stories of actors being consumed by their roles (Vivien Leigh/Blanche DuBois; Day-Lewis's breakdown playing Hamlet on stage). He glances at various other actors whose work he has admired in context (Holden, Gary Cooper, Streep, John Barrymore) or were historically significant (Kean, Garrick). There's a certain amount of actor biography that verges on show biz gossip.

Though he's known mainly for his film criticism, in this essay Thomson spends more time on ephemeral stage performances, often at second hand. Even so, he shows how developments in photography and early cinema wrought a sea change in acting. Because closeups not only required much more intimate acting but also created stars.

What's it all about, David?

I'm not sure I can say the book accomplishes what it set out to do, which I have to assume is to ponder over and perhaps resolve this issue about whether "acting matters". It seems to me the most interesting/informative sections were evident in the latter sections as the author entertained us with accounts of Sir Lawrence Olivier and Marlon Brando. Add to that the comparisons he makes about the two(could Olivier have played Don Vito Corleone in "The Godfather?").

But I found I had to frequently wade through much of the writing because it came across as stilted or needlessly verbose so I wound up having to re-read any number of sentences over and over. Along these lines I wasn't sure about his negative take on "Osage County" and why he had the negative take on it as he did.

Perhaps others wouldn't feel as dragged down by the writing style to the extent I was.

OCCASIONALLY INTERESTING BUT . . .

This is an occasionally interesting look at film acting by a prolific film critic and historian whom I've always found to be only occasionally interesting. He makes much of the impact film has had on acting -- that it was the camera that scaled down the more theatrical acting styles of the past -- but doesn't actually say much about the impact of acting on film. And even at its meager length (not enough physical book for the price, by the way) it still managed to go on too long for me. Sorry not to be more enthusiastic.
