Nancy resides in Denver, Colorado. She has three grown children and two grandchildren and continues her dedication to the sport of tennis by participating in her area league play, avidly watching women's tennis tournaments on television, and hopefully traveling to tournaments for fun!

She is originally from Texas where she grew up loving the water sports. Her interest in tennis began in Texas but really evolved after moving to Colorado. It was a great way to meet new friends. That has been 20 years ago and though team members come and go, her core group has stayed together.

She works with Special Education children in the public schools and spends weekends, when not playing tennis, with her grandchildren. She also enjoys hiking and swimming during the summer months.

Nancy also has been involved with the Labrador Rescue in her area. She has fostered Labradors who need a good home before adoption.

At this moment, Nancy is anxiously awaiting another great season of tennis to begin and hope you are as well!

This is a really cute book! It is a great gift for tennis lovers, coaches, family, and friends! It really caters to women in tennis and women who love the sport. It's a great coffee table book. Or you can use it as a journal for your own game. It's small enough to carry in your bag or car.

About the Author

Joe Sinclair is a practicing educator who also spends his days as an author and athlete. He holds MS degrees in physical education and school administration, as well as EdS and EdD degrees in educational leadership.

While he remained active in sports throughout his forty-six-year career as an educator, which included serving as a highly regarded superintendent of schools in various North Carolina districts for more than twenty years, it wasn’t until after his sixty-second birthday that he decided to become a marathon runner. He has since made his mark in the world of running.

The author of Putting Life on the Finish Line and The Marathon Called Educational Leadership, Sinclair has also written the children’s books Lulu the Snow Goat, Queenie and Little Joe, and Willie the Woolly Worm.

He and his wife, Claryce, live in Statesville, North Carolina.

An authentic voice

Joe Sinclair speaks with an authentic voice. He has the credibility of a person who has resumed running and knows what he is saying. I especially like the opening chapter titled Offsetting Speed with Wisdom as We Get Older. He covers both walking and running and has sage advice for each sport. This book is so practical and contains all the real tips including skin, nutrition, physical adjustments for the entire body and developing a program. I highly recommend this book and endorse Joe Sinclair!

This book contains an abundance of funny poems suiting different personality types; a delightful treat offering something for everyone. It begins with a story about the author, no less written in rhyme, which is rather fascinating and sets the tone for the book. Then moves on to The Witch with the Wonky Broomstick story rhyme, which portrays a witch, who has a really wonderful heart as she cares about her broomstick whether it’s the most quirky or not; it is a broomstick she admires and will trust all her life. It continues with many other rhymes casting a sense of literary difference, allowing the reader to experience alternative thought-processes, taking in ordinary happenings, and making them extraordinarily funny, gross, entertaining, or simply a pleasure to read. The book instills creativity in the mind of readers, as well as leaving them with freedom from the stresses of everyday life. The rhymes can be read to young ones or read by themselves; however, American readers will encounter new vocabulary terms, although common in the UK, young readers may need assistance to gain the correct meaning of the context. A Book To Encourage Youth to Love Poetry!

I enjoyed this book. It is definitely targeted to a younger crowd (hence, the 4 star rating), but it is well written and fun. I love the rhyming of the stanzas. I think they are original and that kids will like reading them. I enjoyed reading them! LOL
I thought the artwork was great as well!
I can see the way BERTIE BOGOFF and THE PHANTOM PUMPER will appeal to boys and how the poem LITTLE SALLY SOUTHGATE will appeal to girls. The humor is a little crude, what I would consider "bathroom humor", but it is appropriate for kids. Most kids I know love to joke about passing gas and such, so this book, I feel, will delight them! I can see buying this for my nieces and nephews for sure, but I do think it is a little more targeted towards males. That is nice though, as it is nice to see a book that will encourage our youth to appreciate the art of poetry!

Fab fab book... Great read for all the family.... So funny... Author must have a great imagination and witty sence of humour.... My 8 year old loves this book and I must admit.... so do I..... I bought both the paper back and kindle edition as my daughter has never got this out of her hand....and showing all her friends at school of the slightly rude poems that children love.... (Pumping, etc.....) .... . A definite must read for children and adults alike..... Well done... X

About the Author
Captain Denny Dillon is the principal owner/operator of the charter-boat Persuader II out of Point Judith, RI. He has been in the charter fishing business since 1972. In 1960 he moved from Providence to Narragansett to attend the University of Rhode Island. He has never left Narragansett. He calls it “God’s Country” and the waters off Point Judith, RI some of the richest fishing grounds in the world. When he is not fishing he is hanging with some of his seven children, fourteen grand-children and two great grand-children. Captain Denny is an avid sporting clays shooter and gardener. Insightful and fun !

Capt. Denny has provided an insightful book into the world of charter fishing. One gets a full sense of the fun, excitement and dangers of the charter fishing world as well as an appreciation of special nature of the creatures of the deep. The book is a fun page turner with something for everyone. I plan to share it with my grandchildren.

As the wife of charter boat captain I have heard many fish stories. This book was a true testament to the hard working men and women of the sea while being light and very informative. Would recommend this book to all. Bravo captain Denny doo!

A Good Fish Meal

Mr. Dillon ( Capt. Denny ) has written a story which builds to a dramatic conclusion. The author displays a comprehensive knowledge of the charter fishing boat business which he uses to craft an interesting tale. Although humorous at times, depicting the banter among the fishermen and crew, he also provides a serious look at the perils which can occur. Entertaining reading as were the short stories relating the very human side of the business - the sensitivity of disposing a loved ones ashes at sea, the comeuppance of Capt. Sal, etc. A book recommended.

Good history of the Italian American Champions that were so involved in the early years of American boxing. Probably not every ones cup of tea however I like to have a bio. on these early fighters and enjoyed and really still am as I am only half way through. Great effort on the part of the writer.

About the Author
D. W. Church is the pen name of story teller Douglas W. Church, who was born August 10, 1945, Delta, Utah, USA. Church is the author of several novels including “In Search of Ray Chapel” and “Lyman Row,” which are novels based upon true life stories. Also the "Joe Snow" Adventure Series. He was educated in local schools in the surrounding Southern Utah area and later worked in several different industries where he established a couple of start-up businesses that he operated until he retired in 2010. Even though successful in business his major interests and hobbies have always leaned towards writing and the arts. So after retiring he began actively following those pursuits. For the most part of his life he resided in the State of Utah but now makes his home in Arizona.

Most gambling books suck, especially ones about sports betting. This is an exception. Great book, from showing beginners how to make their own line to being a good reference regarding park factors, umpires, and Las Vegas sportsbooks for more experienced gamblers.

About the Author
Kenneth Macksey served in WWII under the command of Percy Hobart, later writing the authoritative biography of that leader. Amongst many other books, Macksey wrote two volumes of alternate history, one dealing with the (successful) invasion of England by Germany in 1940 (Operation Sea Lion); the other describing a NATO-Warsaw Pact clash in the late 1980s.

Disappointing - for nitty-gritty military historians only

The problem with the Hitler Options is that it focuses on military logistics to the ignorance of the overall scope of WWII. In describing the plans for SEA LION, the German amphibious invasion of England, the authors list out in meticulous detail the number and commander of the units to be used (i.e. 23rd Waffen SS under Riechsmarshal...), while ignoring the strategic decisions that led Hitler to choose certain options, and whether those could have been changed.
If you'd like to know the individual units the Germans would have used in pursuing, say, a Mediterranean strategy, this book is for you. If you (as I did) want to know WHY the Mediterranean strategy may have been a good option, why it wasn't chosen, and what would be the likely outcomes had it been chosen, look elsewhere.

One of the Better One's

I have read a few other books that are along this same line of "What if" and I must say that this book has been the most enjoyable. The author / editor (in this case) has asked 10 military historians to work with him to take 10 parts of the war and work out what would have happened if some decisions by either the Axis or the Allies would have been different. The author gives us a good overview of the overall situation in he war at the time of the decision, and a very good case as to what would have happened if just one or two key decisions were different. This is a different handling of the subject then others have done, the normal for this type of book is to just take decisions that were made and completely change them for no regard for if that was even possible. Almost fitting the decision in so that the author can put together a nice fiction story.
What is so interesting is that this could have happened and in some cases almost did happen. The authors use the same players that were involved, the same weapons and resources. It is all put together in a very organized and believable way. The historical detail is well chosen and comprehensive, if you are a general reader this may be a bit much, but then again you probably would not pick this book up. The most interesting parts for me were the invasion of the UK, the changes to the Russian campaign and the change in the D-Day landing location. The author did a good job of completing out the scenarios to what very well may have happened. This is a well written and thought out book that is enjoyable and exciting to read.

This collection of short alternative Historical scenarios is among the very best work turned out in the Alternate History Genre. Each scenario very accurately and carefully depicts the possible outcome of a choice that might have been made. Several of the decisions were also not Hitler's decisions, but those of the allies. The book chronicles: a German invasion of England, a German invasion of the Mediterranean, a consolidated German drive toward Moscow to conquer Russia, a combined German-Japanese operation to link up in the middle-east, a German aerial-naval cooperation effort to win the Atlantic Sea War, an Allied attack through the Mediterranean instead of an attack through Normandy, a German atomic weapons scenario, a Jet Fighter scenario, a continuation of Rommel's strategy in Normandy - leading to a much bloodier Omaha beach, and finally, an allied effort to win the war through the immense morale damage inflicted by the destruction of cities after the fashion of Hamburg. The book is inciteful and inspiring - a real joy to read.

Sometimes the Shadow wins

There are at least three books about the trial of Oscar Pistorius. This book, 'Chase Your Shadow: The Trials of Oscar Pistorius' by John Carlin is one of them. The others include 'Behind the Door' by Mandy Weiner and Barry Bateman, and 'Reeva: A Mother's Story' by June Steenkamp.

Carlin's book is smaller, more concise and in some ways, easier to read. 'Chase Your Shadow' has a more detailed account of the personalities and history of Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp. It also covers the day of the sentencing albeit in a few short pages. The book, however, has no photographs. It is also written in a detached style, without tending to take a view or stand as to whether Carlin believes that Oscar Pistorius was guilty of murder (his main charge) or not. Carlin tells us that Reeva Steenkamp was not from an 'aristocratic' family like Oscar Pistorius, and in fact, comes from a poor white family.

Carlin points out that the evidence and the media stories can lead one to different conclusions. He writes about the tweet by Jenna Edkins (Oscar's previous girl-friend) the morning after the killing, that she had known him on and off for five years and he (Oscar) had not once lifted his finger at her or made her fear for her life. Carlin tries to put in bits that shows Oscar in better light than the media did. He might have sensed that there are two `two Oscars' as there are `two South Africas' and concludes by writing that `In the silence of his cell he might find the time and mental space to ponder at last, who he was, who he wanted to be and which mask fitted him best'.

'Behind the Door' (Weiner & Bateman) is the most detailed of the three books, and importantly, has very clear photographs of the Pistorius house and the inside of that house after the killing. These photographs are important because they may influence the reader to some extent because as Carlin writes in his book, 'Most people have made up their minds from the beginning as to why Pistorius did it, and then proceeded to follow the trial having taken one side or the other'. The evidence is very clearly and comprehensively set out by Weiner and Bateman, and the photographs of the scene will help the reader appreciate the event on the night of the killing, Valentine's Day, 14 February 2013. The Weiner and Bateman book has a very clear graphic of the sequence of events a sketch plan of the crime scene.

Weiner and Bateman's book covers the story and the trial in a detached way, but does not avoid raising questions that were asked and may not have been satisfactorily answered till this day. For example, they write: 'In the lead-up to the trial many people asked why Oscar would have believed an intruder managed to climb into his bathroom when he had two dogs, and why he never considered the fact that there was no barking indicated that there was no intruder. Oscar's evidence about his dogs thus explained how a stranger would have unhindered access to the property and why they wouldn't react. After the shooting, family friends in Tzaneen adopted the dogs.' Weiner and Bateman report Oscar's evidence that his dogs were too friendly and playful although he bought them for protection - they were pit bulls.

Weiner and Bateman's book gives only such private accounts of Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp as they could glean from the evidence at trial. There is thus no jazzed up account of their lives - everything was from the official record, but we do not know whether everything has gone into the official record (since many witnesses declined to testify). This book, unfortunately, ended after Judge Masipa delivered her verdict. There is no account of the sentences - five-years (for the killing) and three years suspended sentence (for the arms offence).
June Steenkamp's book `Reeva', was written from the anger of a victim's mother, but it is not vitriolic, and in the end she said that she had forgiven Oscar Pistorius 'in the Christian sense'. Although she is unhappy with the verdict that Oscar Pistorius was not guilty of murder, she is satisfied with the five-year imprisonment. She thinks that that is enough. Steenkamp's book has plenty of personal details and stories about Reeva Steenkamp as well as photographs of her when she was young, and when she was in her prime. This book, unlike the other two, is personal and takes the opposite stand so far as the verdict is concerned. The author writes that on the morning after the verdict she found a feather on her dressing table and she thus believes that '[her daughter's] back'.

The writer really cracks into Oscar's personality and character. Story of a very confused individual with many vulnerabilities with a criminal case which became more disturbing to all involved from every aspect. Regardless of his personal issues, his explanation, his justification; he really did shoot. No one deserves to die like that.

An Excellent Novel on Contemporary South Africa

'Chase your Shadow: The Trials of Oscar Pistorius' is not only an excellent account of the trial itself but also of contemporary South Africa. The book reads very well and has led to rumblings that it will be adapted into a movie (John Carlin's book, 'Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Made a Nation' was later turned into the movie 'Invictus'). I personally enjoyed this novel having been to South Africa and the cities of Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Port Elizabeth in particular (These cities feature prominently in the book) as well as having done academic work on the country. The insight into Pistorius's life prior to the shooting as well as the background of other key figures was very effective and intriguing. I would highly recommend this book and am looking forward to reading more John Carlin books in the future.

This is a reprint of an old book. Print fills approx. half the page. It would have been easier to read if print had been enlarged. Book binding seems to be well done.
