Pats fan living in the Steel-town

Got this book more to rub it into my Steeler friends when they come over, but was pleasantly surprised how interested I was in reading the game stories. Good detail from the game articles and nice additional insight from those in the org. If you're a Patriots fan, I would suggest picking this up--the team is getting older and you may not get this chance in a while.

Great photos and game stories from the entire season. I love hardcover for commemorative books - they last so much longer than a paperback. I'm pretty sure I'll be looking through the section on the Pats incredible Super Bowl win many, many times in the future. Here's to winning another Super Bowl next year!

The author had dreams of owning a motorcycle since he was twelve, but that dream wouldn’t become a reality until he was in his fifties. Then, out of the blue, a lucky find catapulted him into the world of bikes and riding. As if to make up for lost time, he logged well over sixty thousand miles in the saddle in the few years since climbing aboard that first bike and has immersed himself in everything having to do with motorcycling. His love of bikes and riding, combined with his experience in publishing, resulted in the creation of this imprint, Road Dog Publications, and his editorship of Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Magazine.

This is a collection of stories resulting from that journey the author started when he first sighted a CB350 under a pile of junk in the dusty back corner of a storage bay. That non-functioning, old Honda required him to pick up the needed mechanical skills to get it back in running shape and to maintain it and the other motorcycles in his garage he eventually acquired. These stories make up the first part of this book—Wrenching. Of course, once he had a bike in riding condition, the next logical thing was to ride. Stories about those road trips comprise the second section—Riding. The last section—Reflecting—is a natural product of this journey and are his thoughts on the significance and nature of riding motorcycles as he’s experienced it.

About the Author
Michael Fitterling was born in 1957 in northern Indiana and grew up just across the state line in Niles, Michigan, graduating from Brandywine High School in 1975. Mike did a two year stint at Anderson College, in Indiana, before dropping out in 1978. In 1989, he returned to school at the University of South Florida, where he graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor in Fine Arts.

Throughout Mike's youth, family trips hinted at the world awaiting him if he just got on the road. Starting at an early age his family made camping trips to over twenty states.

After his first stab at college, Mike tagged along with his brother on a biology and archeology excursion Anderson College had organized to Central America. Those five weeks of camping in the remotest areas of Mexico and Guatemala added the twist of adventure to his love of travelling.

As time went on, Mike was drawn to the sea, bought a small sailboat, and took off along the southeast US coast and through the Bahamas and Caribbean. He captained an excursion sailboat in the Cayman Islands for three summers and earned his US captain's license in 1993.

Returning to the States from the Caribbean, Mike settled in central Florida, where he worked as a graphic designer. He married his wife, Andrea, in 1997 and started a family in 2000. He became interested in woodworking during this time and worked semi-professionally at that craft.

Motorcycles had been a distant dream for Mike since his childhood, but bike ownership escaped him until he was in his fifties, when he discovered a 1968 Honda tucked away in a dusty corner of a relative' shop. He extracted the motorcycle and applied himself to learning about fixing and riding them, starting a new episode in his life, which provided him a new means of adventuring. By this writing, that first bike has carried him over 30,000 miles. A modern Triumph was added to his garage in 2012, which has now accumulated similar mileage.

When he married, Mike was working as cover designer and illustrator for Lost Classics Book Company, and later became Managing Editor. He acquired the company in 2010. Finding himself owner of a publishing company, his natural inclination was to turn to publishing books on motorcycling and so, in 2011, the Road Dog Publications imprint was started.

In 2013, Mike became Editor of Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Magazine, the official publication of the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club, where he also currently serves on the board of directors.

A Good Read About 1 Mans Motorcycle Travels

As a VJMC member & a contributor to the magazine that his company publishes when I saw this book I knew that I had to read it. Michael Fitterling is a talented author who writes a decent & entertaining travelogue. No brutal swashbuckling adventures slogging through Borneo or anything like that, all the action takes place on pavement in North America, the adventurous part is in his choice of bike for most trips. But my favorite part of the book is where he discusses trying to balance his overwhelming wanderlust against the priorities of family & fatherhood. If you like motorcycle travel stories you'll like this one.

James Jordan is an educator and a soccer coach. He holds the NSCAA Premier Diploma, USSF National Youth License, and a Doctorate in Education. I'm only halfway through the book but I am having a hard time putting it down.

Dr. Jordan does a great job of providing practice plans/ideas but also offers the kind of questions that you might face from players or questions you should be asking yourself.

UPDATE: March 23, 2015
I finished this book and I found it to be an easy read and easy to understand the concepts he was presenting. They are easy to implement into practice and can be easily modified for your practice sessions. I have found that our players are working harder as they compete with one another to improve their game both individually and as a team. I look forward to more topics from Coach Jordan.

Games Transfer Across Multiple Sports

James does a great job of creating a game-based approach to soccer. I am currently in the heart of our LAX season, and the games transfer beautifully to this sport. I am able to make slight modifications so that we can focus on specifics to LAX while also enjoying the game-based approach. Basically, what I am trying to say, is that this book of drills has amazing transfer namely with Lacrosse. However, I grew up playing basketball, so with a little modification to drills, it would easily transfer across bball as well!

It explains a wide variety of games that can be used to develop and hone skills, and it includes questions to ask the players after each game to help develop their strategic thinking skills. In 1979, a convict serving time for robbery, Marion Albert “Mad Dog” Pruett, was placed in the witness protection program for testifying against an inmate for a murder that Pruett himself later admitted to committing. In 1981, as part of a week-long crime spree, Pruett kidnapped a bank teller in Jackson, MS. Forcing the teller to drive to a rural area and then walking her into a heavily wooded area, he killed her by shooting her.
This terrible event made the author wonder what might have happened if a skilled hunter had been in a position to intervene when “Mad Dog” followed his victim into the woods. The setting for the story was inspired by the author’s own experience of encountering an Indian mound while hunting near the ruins of a Civil War plantation.
The resulting fictional story begins with the Natchez Indians in the 1700’s and ties the earthen mound of those people with the kudzu covered ruins of a Civil War mansion and family cemetery. The Indian mound is the hub of the story, connecting the deaths of an Indian princess and a plantation owner’s wife and daughter to the modern day victims of a serial killer who are young, female dancers at a Delta strip club. Secrets of the Indian mound and cemetery are revealed.
Bush pilot and sometimes covert operator, Deke Desmarais, must solve the murder mystery by first solving a 152 year old riddle and then tricking his suspect into a confrontation that includes wild hogs in an underground environment. Deke becomes involved with multiple love interests and at one point is forced to protect his young and attractive half-Indian daughter, Nikki, in a life-or-death situation.

Park your city sedan, grab a six pack, and drive you pickup truck into the hidden Mississippi Delta where the normal gumbo ingredients have been replaced by hogs, strange deer, and a murderous chef who has managed to remain anonymous. An exciting, suspenseful read which managed to steal my nighttime slumber as I joined the guest in their pursuit of justice.

This is one of the best fiction books I have ever read

This is one of the best fiction books I have ever read. The author's style is a wonderful blend of John Grisham, Tom Clancy, Louis Grizzard and Zane Grey with a little bit of Louisiana hot sauce thrown in. Once you start reading this book you won't be able to put it down.

This is an expansive soils textbook that has collected a number of technical peer-reviewed papers by the authors and others, and presented them in a form that any practicing geotechnical engineer can easily understand. On those subjects that may be challenging, the authors have included examples of calculations that illustrate the material discussed. This is a "must have" textbook for any practicing geotechnical engineer in the Front Range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and for that matter anywhere else in the world where expansive soils are encountered.

Imaginative and a great book for reading practice

It a great children s book I did let my daughter read this and I like that she learns not only colors but also types of objects while reading this book, even if my daughter keeps on asking me a lot of question about the characters in the book and sometimes I have to come up with an explanation to things that has no sense, but I admire my daughter for that because this proves that she is also thinking.

I would recommend this one either for a bedtime story or reading practice this one has more than a hundred pages and it has pictures in it. and it does have a nice story too, my daughter really loves it!

This book is a great book to read to a child that is being bullied. I know people can be pains. I believe being depressed about the way you look can be good in a way. It helps you overcome obstacles easier and you can help friends with problems. Sally Haas, if I could say 1 thing to you I would say "Incredible". You are a great writer.

Plain Jane decides to flee her town because she is plain and fears bringing shame upon her family. She steps off the bus into a town where everyone has a different color or feature. For example, some are blue or orange, others are plaid or striped. One fat lady volunteers to take her in. The town is about to celebrate the Fourth of July; they decide they will " fix" Plain Jane. As you may guess, that doesn't work out too well as each of the residents emphasizes their own characteristic. What will Jane decide to do? Will she find a way to use her plainness as a unique attribute? Jane will learn what freedom is all about.

The illustrations are bright; they clearly convey the meaning of the text. At times, the text is a bit wordy for the preschool or kindergarten audience, and more appropriate for children in first or second grade. I would still recommend the book as the message is an important one, especially for children who are shy or self-conscious about their appearance.

About the Author
Anthony Epp was born with a love of telling stories. He's a filmmaker, internet entrepreneur, and a former shoe salesman. If you love what you do, then you are never "working". Anthony's made a career out of hobbies and passions. While in University he joined Kappa Sigma, a men's fraternal organization. Everybody's experience with fraternities is different, but Anthony's was so fulfilling that, when he graduated, he was fortunate to get a great job working with the Fraternity in Charlottesville, Virginia, for five years, helping chapters all over North America give their members the same great experience he had. During that time, he ran his first marathon (Atlanta, 2007, finishing under the Olympic rings) and was immediately hooked (and really sore). This led to him teaching running clinics and, eventually, managing a running shoe store in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Being around such inspirational stories and people led him to complete his first Ironman triathlon in 2002 and become immersed in the triathlon community. While continuing to train, Anthony immersed himself in the world of investment and insurance planning and changed careers to become a financial advisor. His clients ranged from young families to entrepreneurs who were starting up their small businesses, all of whom needed sound financial blueprints to create more stability and certainty in there lives. Meeting people with such a wide variety of life experience and goals cemented a belief in Anthony that continued into his next career: that we all have stories that can be inspirations to others. For eight years, Anthony has been (and currently is) a filmmaker. He's written, produced and directed several short films, and, in 2009, fulfilled a lifelong dream when he wrote and produced a documentary for the Canadian premium cable channel, Superchannel, called "Unspoken Rules", a movie about fighting in hockey. Anthony has produced and assisted on various film projects for television, the web, and for various festivals. His IMDb (the Internet Movie Database) is filled with a variety of his film credits. His "day job" is as a "script coordinator" for the television series Motive (and previously for such popular shows as Sanctuary, Primeval:New World, and Cedar Cove). A jack-of-all-trades, master of few, Anthony continues telling stories and providing information to people who want to achieve their dreams.

What a great read! I've been interested in the idea of completing an ironman for years and I've been intimidated to say the least. With this, I now have a plan to use that is detailed enough where I don't have to come up with something new while allowing for a lot of personalization as well. An absolute must for someone who wants to finish an ironman.

The Fix is a compelling and exciting sports thriller

The Fix by Jeff Schneider takes the reader on an insiders tour into the dark underworld of big-time college athletics. What a book! I could not put it down. Set in the heart of basketball country, Louisville, KY, the book follows the prospects of Catholic U and its star player, Mike Kramer on their quest for an NCAA National Championship. If only it were that simple. With ratings low and advertising slipping, the major broadcast network with rights to the NCAA tournament takes matters into its own hands with the help of the mob, makes sure that certain teams win and certain teams lose. Needless to say this book reminded me of John Grisham's The Firm. I found The Fix better however. Intrigue and suspense describe this novel and with Schneider's eloquent and descriptive writing, the novel moves along very quickly. I had the fortunate opportunity to play Division 1 basketball for Penn State and I can tell you that no book I have ever written comes close to capturing the pressure and intensity of big time college basketball like this novel. I can't wait for the sequel!

BEST SPORTS SUSPENSE I'VE EVER READ...

The Fix is the best sports story I've ever read, and when they make the movie it will be better than Hoosiers. The book goes into the darker edges of the college basketball scene, often reminding me of THE GODFATHER and GOODFELLOWS. Thoroughly enjoyed his plot and characters, none of them unbelievable and all of them really alive....

Who said the mob was dead?

Hey, the NCAA better read this and figure out what they're going to do when the bosses in NY get a hold of this book. I loved reading this story. It was full of laughs, deep reflection, truths and the quest to fulfill manhood. Mike Kramer, the lead character, comes out of nowheresville and holds the keys to his future when he's offered a bribe to throw an important NCAA tournament game. He's besieged by the problems back home during the course of the story, and now he has a chance to help out his family with big money from a low-life mob man. From page one it moves fast and furious, especially the basketball scenes. A stunning and unexpected read that is something everyone will love from the moment they read the first page of a kid being blown away in his dorm room by an angry mob figure. Great read, great writing here.
